Golf

Golf fitness is an intricate and dedicated service offered at Goodwin Strength & Service designed to improve your golf game from an educated and intentional approach.

How is golf fitness different than regular exercise?

Golf fitness isn’t just about getting stronger or fitter — it’s about training your body to move more efficiently for the golf swing.

Unlike general workouts, which focus on broad goals like weight loss or muscle gain, golf fitness is highly specialized. It targets the specific mobility, stability, strength, balance, and power demands of the golf swing.

Here’s how it’s different:

  • Functional, Golf-Specific Movement: Golf fitness focuses on rotational movement, balance, core control, and joint mobility — especially in the hips, shoulders, and thoracic spine — all critical for a powerful and consistent swing.

  • Body-Swing Connection: Through screening and assessment (utilizing the TPI system), we identify how your body influences your swing mechanics. That allows us to correct physical limitations that may be causing inconsistency, pain, or lack of distance.

  • Injury Prevention: Many swing faults and golf-related injuries stem from underlying movement issues. Golf fitness helps reduce strain on your body by improving how you move — not just how much you lift.

  • Performance-Driven: Every exercise has a purpose tied to your game. Whether it’s generating more clubhead speed, improving your balance, or finishing 18 holes pain-free, golf fitness is about playing better and feeling better.

Simply put: You don’t need a bodybuilder’s strength to play great golf — you need a golfer’s body that moves well.

What is Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and why does it matter?

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world’s leading authority on how the human body affects the golf swing. Our lead trainer, Jay, is versed in all of TPI’s techniques and education.

Founded by experts in golf, fitness, and biomechanics, TPI developed a system to evaluate a golfer’s body and how it influences their swing mechanics, power, consistency, and injury potential.

Using a specialized physical screening process, TPI-certified professionals like Jay can identify limitations in mobility, stability, or strength that may be causing swing faults or holding back performance. In fact, most times, Jay can pinpoint a golfer’s swing faults before even seeing them swing. He does this through the TPI testing and movement assessment. From there, he can design personalized training and correction programs to help golfers move better, swing better, and play better.
